4 minutes

Queensland, Australia is a vast and diverse state, for the majority knows for its closeness to the Great Barrier Reef. However you would be astonished to find out the wide range of experiences it can offer to suit every type of traveler! In this ultimate travel guide, we will cover the top must-visit experiences in some of the most popular destinations in Queensland, including Whitehaven Beach, Magnetic Island, Noosa, Brisbane, Airlie Beach, Fraser Island, Coolangatta, Daintree Forest, Gold Coast, and Cairns.

  1. Whitehaven Beach

Located in the Whitsunday Islands, Whitehaven Beach is one of the most stunning beaches in the world, known for its turquoise waters and white sands. The beach is only accessible by boat, which makes it a secluded and peaceful destination. Visitors can swim, snorkel, and relax on the beach while taking in the breathtaking scenery. There are several ways to experience the island: 1 day or up to 3 days Excursion as well as the Scenic Flight (which although pricey (from 250AUD) it is totally worth it!)

  1. Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island is a picturesque island just less than one hour ferry away the coast of Townsville, home to an abundance of wildlife, including wallabies, rock wallabies and koalas. Visitors can explore the island’s hiking trails, beaches, and bays while getting up close and personal with the local wildlife. My most favorite place is the Fort walk where you can spot koalas at every time of the day!

  1. Noosa

Noosa is a charming beach town on the Sunshine Coast, known for its pristine beaches, hiking trails, and national parks. Be ready to walk up and down the city and save some hours to explore the Noosa National Park with its stunning coastal views as well as book a surf class (usually organized by any hostel or hotel). Make sure to be set on the beach for its stunning sunset!

  1. Brisbane

Brisbane is a vibrant city that offers a variety of attractions and activities, including museums, galleries, and parks. Visitors can take a stroll through the South Bank Parklands, visit the Queensland Art Gallery, or explore the city’s many historical landmarks.

  1. Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, so must visit location in order to visit the Whitsunday Islands. However do not underestimate the place! With its chill town’s beachside vibe, amazing restaurants and bars, it is good for a night or two of resting & relax.

  1. Fraser Island

Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island, offering visitors a unique ecosystem and history to discover. Visitors can explore the island’s stunning beaches, freshwater lakes, and ancient rainforests while experiencing its diverse wildlife. Really so magical to think it is just sand!

  1. Coolangatta

Coolangatta is a popular beach destination on the Gold Coast, less popular than Surfer Paradise or Sunshine coast so the perfect gate away to explore the local offering with less tourists. Good for surfing, swimming, beach life or to drive to the nearby Tweed Valley to discover stunning natural beauty.

  1. Daintree Forest

The Daintree RainForest is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest rainforests in the world, offering the opportunity to discover unique wildlife and stunning natural beauty. I would recommended to take a guided tour through the forest, visit the Daintree Discovery Centre, and especially explore the nearby beaches and waterfalls.

  1. Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a popular destination for families and thrill-seekers, especially for locals as well. Its popularity triggers from endless beaches together with scenic parks and nature. It can be really warm during summers so always have a hat on and a water of bottle ready with you.

  1. Cairns

Cairns is a bustling city that offers visitors the opportunity to experience the Great Barrier Reef and explore the city’s many museums, galleries, and parks. Visitors can take a train ride through the rainforest to the nearby Kuranda Village, or embark on a once-in-a-lifetime hot air balloon ride over the stunning Atherton Tablelands.

Whether you are looking for stunning beaches, vibrant cities, or ancient rainforests, Queensland has it all. I guess the question would be

When best to go?

In terms of period of the year, I was there during the wet season (end of February until May) so has to be flexibile with planning due to some heavy rainy days! If you are on a tight schedule then I would advise to avoid this period and aim for summer or beginning of autumn.

I hope you are now curious and ready to plan your next trip to Queensland!
