Travel Essentials-Nr.1 Backpack
3 minutes

Backpacking offers a unique sense of adventure and freedom, allowing us to explore different parts of the world while carrying our essential belongings in a backpack. According to a survey conducted by Hostelworld, backpacking has become the preferred method of travel for 48% of travelers aged 18-34. Backpacking is an important travel style that offers unique experiences and is growing in popularity among young travelers

Why so?

Unlike traditional luggage, backpacks are designed to distribute the weight evenly on our shoulders and hips, making it easier to carry heavier loads for extended periods. Additionally, backpacks offer greater mobility and flexibility, allowing us to move around easily without being weighed down. To me though, move from a suitcase to a backpack symbolized a lot more. It is the switch from

  1. Ordinary to Unique
  2. Holiday to Adventure
  3. Tourist to Explorer
  4. Travel as a luxury to Accessible for anyone
  5. Unflexible to Adaptable
  6. Ordinary to Out of the comfort zone

Backpacking is a unique and adventurous way to travel that allows you to experience different cultures, meet new people, and explore off-the-beaten-path destinations. It’s a style of travel that encourages exploration, cultural immersion, environment responsibility and inspires personal growth.

Backpacking helps you challenge yourself and push your limits, making it an extremely rewarding experience. However, selecting the right backpack and packing efficiently are two essential elements for a successful backpacking trip.

Here are my top 3 tips and recommendations for selecting the right backpack:

Size Matters: Always start with selecting the Backpack size. It should be proportional to your body size and should not be too big or too small. Generally, a 40-65L backpack is ideal for either a long weekend or months-long backpacking trip.

Fit & Weight: The backpack should fit comfortably on your shoulders and hips, distributing the weight evenly. Look for backpacks with adjustable shoulder straps, hip belts, and back panels to ensure a perfect fit.Weight: Always choose lightweight backpacks; they are easier to carry and don’t weigh you down on long treks.

Durability: Your backpack should be made of durable and water-resistant materials that can withstand the wear and tear of travel. If you are new to backpacking, start with a smaller size to use on weekend and check which material, shape works best for you

I have been using Rains backpacks since almost 10 years and I would recommend it to any backpacker and especially new beignners- the best Waterproof material, create laptop compartment as well as hidden back compartment for your phone. On top of it, amazing attentions to details as per back ventilation, fishtail, metal eyelets in the armpit ventilation holes.

For longer trips I have been instead using Thule brand since 2018. It is extremely light compared to other more famous brands and it is fully customisable to your needs thanks to the several straps and back adjustments. A versatile, all-around pack built to withstand any season and countless activities.
